A Letter from Our Founder

A woman with shoulder-length gray hair smiling, wearing a dark green blouse with pleats and buttons, and a silver necklace, standing against a plain light background.

Owen made me a better person. He had a pure heart, a contagious laugh, and the ability to make anyone feel seen. He also had mental health challenges that we worked tirelessly to address—with therapy, medication, love, and support. But it wasn’t enough.

When Owen died, I shattered. My identity as a mom, a doctor, and a person suddenly collapsed. I’ve spent months piecing myself back together—slowly, painfully—like the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold.

I’m still broken. But I’m also committed. Before Owen’s death, I planned to open a wellness-based medical practice, combining traditional medicine with holistic mental health. Now, that vision has evolved. It’s no longer just about patients. It’s about community. It’s about change.

As a pulmonary critical care physician, I’ve seen how unwell people are—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. So many struggle in silence. So few know where to turn.

Through The Goldfinch Foundation, I want to create what Owen needed—and what so many of us need: compassion, connection, and honest conversations about mental health.

This is my new purpose. This is Owen’s legacy.

With love,
