INTO THE LIGHT - SUNRISE 5K
More than 400 participants gathered before sunrise for the Into the Light 5K, running together from darkness into light in support of youth mental health. The morning was filled with energy, community, and powerful moments that reminded us none of us walk this road alone.
Check out some of the highlights from the event, including photos and video captured by Teen Ambassador Jack Ketchel.
FROM DARKNESS
“We started our “into the light” 5k in total darkness: a quiet metaphor for the battles and isolation that many experience when struggling with mental health and depression. Watching the sun break as we ran/walked was a beautiful symbol of hope the promise of a brighter day. People cheered each other on, inspiring feelings of togetherness and understanding. I am proud to have been part of this journey toward awareness and healing.”
INTO THE LIGHT
“When we crossed the finish line we saw Owen’s life in all the people inspired to rise so early in the dark to share the light. Now that flame is lit we aim to help brighten the path where the dark cloud hangs.”
“At 77 I have participated in innumerable events over nearly 60 years from marathons, triathlons, duathlons, 5k, 10k, 5 and 10 milers, Century and 1/2 Century bike rides, criterium bike races including Into the Light on March 1 on the Richland Creek Greenway at McCabe Park. It was beautiful weather, at a perfect venue for a 5K, and mostly a wonderful vibe from darkness, to daybreak, to sunrise. Into the Light ranks as one of my all time favorite events. I could go on but you get the point and the focus and purpose of this event and The Goldfinch Foundation was conveyed perfectly. Thank you!”
“The Into the Light Sunrise 5K was such a powerful experience - running into the sunrise while raising awareness for youth mental health made it a truly meaningful event that I would love to do again!”
“Out of all of the 5K’s I have participated in, This one was very well put together. I appreciate the effort from the GFF and all the staff that helped with the race/walk. Thank you for all you do”
